Today, Governor Tom Wolf unveiled his budget for the 2015 – 2016 fiscal year. In it, he affirmed the decision to consolidate and streamline the health care programs of the previous administration.
Antoinette Kraus, Director of the Pennsylvania Health Access Network released the following statement in response:
“Governor Wolf’s health care proposals, as outlined in his budget, will make our health care system more efficient and remove harmful barriers to care that have jeopardized the health and economic security of Pennsylvania families.
Healthy PA, as designed by Governor Corbett, established a complex system that split the Medicaid risk pool and segregated benefits for low-income Pennsylvanians. The program has caused chaos for patients and providers since January 1st, disrupting lifesaving care for people seeking mental health treatment and interrupting payment to their providers. By consolidating and streamlining Pennsylvania’s health care programs, we will strengthen Medicaid and save more money.
Governor Wolf is taking the right steps to protect patients and taxpayers, and we urge lawmakers to work with, rather than against him. It’s time that pragmatism, rather than partisanship, guides our state’s health care policymaking.”
