Senate Committee Takes Key Vote on Medicaid Expansion
Harrisburg, PA (June 28, 2013) — Today, the Pennsylvania Senate took the first step in bringing the benefits of Medicaid Expansion by advancing and amendment on HB1075.– for families, hospitals, and our economy — to Pennsylvania.
Antoinette Kraus, Director of the Pennsylvania Health Access Network made the following statement in response to the Senate vote.
“The Public Health and Welfare Committee took an important first step today to protect Pennsylvania’s fiscal and physical health by advancing an amendment to the welfare code that puts Pennsylvania on the path to making Medicaid Expansion a reality. The bi partisan committee vote moves hardworking Pennsylvanians one step closer to finally having access to secure, affordable health coverage. The Medicaid Expansion is an economic win for our state and our families. Today’s vote puts Pennsylvania on the path to creating 40,000 new, good-paying jobs, generating more than $4 billion in savings for our state budget over the next decade, and most importantly: expanding health care coverage to more than half-a-million Pennsylvanians.”
