Why we need a Public Health Plan as part of Health Care Reform
We all know that it is time to reform health care in this country. Costs are out of control and far too many Americans are uninsured.
A new administration has been elected to bring about change.
Part of that change in health care is the creation of a public insurance plan.
A public insurance option will:
1. Give us a greater range of choices,
2. Make the health care market more competitive,
3. Keep insurance companies honest,
4. Help control rising health care costs.
The public option will allow us to keep our current insurance if we choose or select a public insurance plan.
A public plan will be affordable and cover pre-existing conditions. If we lose our jobs or our employer doesn’t offer coverage it will offer us an affordable option. It will allow us to choose our Doctors and provide quality coverage.
Without a public plan to compete with the insurance companies health costs will continue out of control and too many Americans will be priced out of coverage. As President Obama said recently, “If the private insurance companies have to compete with a public option, it’ll keep them honest and it’ll…help keep their prices down.”
This is our opportunity to fix health care. Let’s not blow it.
