Silas Russell has worked in the grassroots and grasstops of progressive politics on the federal, state, and local levels for more than a decade. He is a 2007 graduate of Allegheny College, with a bachelors degree in Political Science and minor concentration in creative writing. As the Political and Government Affairs Director of SEIU Healthcare PA, the state’s largest union of healthcare workers, Silas works to drive a progressive agenda focused on improving healthcare quality and cost effectiveness by empowering front line caretakers and support staff to have a stronger voice in their work.
Prior to his six years of service with SEIU, Silas was a field operative and campaign manager for numerous state legislative campaigns and in the United States Presidential election in 2008. As Western PA Field Director for Organizing for America in 2009 and 2010, Silas worked to mobilize consumers and activists to secure key Congressional votes and pass the Affordable Care Act. Silas also serves on the board of Pennsylvania Working Families and was a member of Governor Wolf’s transition committee on the Pennsylvania Insurance Commission. He is a native of Greenville, PA and currently resides in Pittsburgh with his cat Frances Purrkins.
