Melissa Knorr joined PHAN in 2016 as the consumer engagement manager. She holds a Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Arts in women’s studies from Allegheny College. Melissa has over fifteen years’ experience working with underserved populations in the United States and abroad, and is passionate about health equity and social justice. She engaged and empowered rural community members around issues of education, women’s rights, income generation, and reproductive health as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia, Belize, and Costa Rica. Melissa continues her volunteer work in Pittsburgh, where she serves as a board member for a supportive housing program, and helps refugee families adjust to their new homes. She believes that healthcare is a human right, and is thrilled to be involved in the consumer-driven movement to increase access and improve the quality of healthcare in Pennsylvania.
