Senate Insurance Committee Hearing on UPMC-Highmark Dispute
Location:
Erie Insurance Auditorium, Erie Insurance Place--Corner of Sixth and French Streets
September 22, 2011 - 1:00pm
Thursday, Sept. 22nd at 1pm.
The Senate Banking and Insurance Committee will hold a public hearing to "accept testimony regarding the ongoing contractual dispute between Highmark and UPMC and Highmark's proposed acquisition of West Penn Allegheny Hospital."
Expected to testify are Highmark CEO Ken Melani and UPMC CEO Jeff Romoff. While the public has been encouraged to contact their representatives, the Insurance Commissioner and UPMC and Highmark, it's not clear whether or not comment and input from the public will be accepted at the hearing.
Resolving this dispute and averting a "divorce" between UPMC and Highmark is especially important in Northwest PA, now that UPMC has taken over Erie's Hamot Hospital.
