The Honorable Robert Casey, Jr.

United States Senator

409 Lackawanna Avenue – Suite 3-C

Scranton PA  18503

Dear Senator Casey:

I’m writing you about health care.  Like so many other people in my community, I think it very important that we fix our health care system.

Our medical professionals and hospitals are doing fine work.  But I am concerned that many people don’t have access to care until they are very sick, that costs are climbing much faster than our incomes, that our health insurers have not been serving us well, and that many employers are dropping coverage for their employees.

(if you or a member of your family have had an experience that would help the Senator understand your concern, include a paragraph or two about that here.)

Providing health care is a moral commitment for us as Americans. The problem is, under our current system, we don’t provide that care for many people until they are critically ill.  By that point, they have suffered unnecessarily and the care they need is very expensive.

We can do better than this.  By the legislation you support, we can build a framework that encourages people to take care of themselves, ensures everyone has access to basic care, and broadly shares the risk of serious illness or injury.

Senator, none of this will be easy; those who are doing well in our current system are sure to stand in the way.  An example of this is the insurance industry, which certainly does not want to compete with a public plan.

But it is important that our health care system serves everyone and that costs be brought under control.  Senator, please be a leader in getting this done.  Thank you!

Sincerely,
