Deadline to Submit Public Comment on Highmark's Plan to Raise Rates on Special Care

The Insurance Department will be accepting public comment on whether or not Highmark should be allowed to raise the rates by 9.9% on Special Care. On Thursday, the Insurance Department announced that Highmark cut back it's 9.9% increase, and instead is trying to push through a 4.9% increase. This shows they're feeling the heat!

Help us send the message that we won't stand for ANY rate hike on this already expensive and inadequate plan. A company that spends $3 million on a Super Bowl ad does not have to raise rates and put the screws to its lowest-income subscribers--many of whom already took a 400% increase, going from adultBasic to Special Care.

Before Sept. 5th, we need you to:

  1. Call Gov. Corbett's Insurance Commissioner and say: "I heard Highmark wants to raise rates on Special Care 9.9%.  That's outrageous! We need a public hearing on this." Dial: (717) 787 - 2317. Then, at the automated system, Press 3 (for complaints) and then Press 2 (for health care) then someone will answer and you say NO to the Highmark rate increase!
  2. Send an email to the Department telling them to say NO to Highmark's rate increase. View a sample letter here then click here to let us know you called!
