Conference Call on Insurance Rate Review in PA, Medical Loss Ratios
August 17, 2010 - 6:00pm
Disgusted by health insurance companies that jack up premiums without an explanation? What's stopping them anyway?!
Join PHAN for a call on Tuesday, August 17th at 6:00 PM that will discuss the rate review process in Pennsylvania as compared to the rest of the country.
Our Commonwealth is one of only two states in the country that doesn't have a real rate review process. In 48 other states the insurance commissioner has the power to not only monitor rate increases that insurance companies attach to their policies, but also regulate them. Companies are not permitted to institute outrageous and unjustified rate increases.
Learn about this and the fight in Washington going on right now around Medical Loss Ratios. The MLR is a critical regulation that will make sure insurance companies spend 80% of your premium dollars on actual medical care instead of profits, lobbying, marketing or CEO salaries. Insurance companies are currently using some of this money to try to weaken these provisions - how 'ironic.'
This call is part of PHAN's weekly policy call series on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM. Special guest speaker TBA; RSVP by sending Athena an email at aford@pahealthaccess.org.
