The Pennsylvania Health Access Network stood with local seniors, persons with disabilities and advocates at Senator Toomey’s office on Monday, Nov. 21st, to showcase public support for Medicare and Medicaid on the day the Congressional Super Committee announced it was unable to reach agreement on a plan to reduce the nation’s deficit by $1.2 trillion.

Plan Would Privatize Medicare, Turn Medicaid into Block Grant Program and Cut All Funding for Affordability Subsidies and Medicaid Expansion in the Affordable Care Act

Remember the political hay that opponents of health reform made by scaring the daylights out of seniors with relentless TV and radio ads that spread the lies that the Affordable Care Act would negatively impact Medicare? Well, now seniors (and everyone else) have reason to be afraid… Very afraid, and angry, and ready to fight back.

Open Enrollment for Medicare Began This Week, Will Continue Through Dec. 31st

Earlier this week, the Open Enrollment period for Medicare began. Getting to the Truth About Reform

Jo Ciavaglia, Health Reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times wrote a great article examining the many false claims used by opponents of reform to confuse and mislead voters and the public about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. She opens her article by saying:

Senior Health Reform Discussion in Pittsburgh

Yesterday I delivered a presentation discussing the new health care reform law to a group of about 35 seniors at the Jewish Community Center in Pittsburgh.  As you can imagine, the most prevalent question among the group was, “what does the legislation mean for me?” or “how does the law change Medicare?”  Since I knew this would be the case that is what the majority of the discussion concentrated on.

Senior Citizens Learn About Health Care Reform

Seniors in Sunbury, PA today heard for the first time what the new health care law will mean for them. Two forums were held in assisted living facilities and they were organized not by PHAN staff, but by one of our ambitious volunteer leaders, Lana with the support of another PHAN activist, Rodger. Lana set the date, contacted the facilities, posted flyers and let the local newspaper know we would be there today. Thanks to her initiative and leadership more seniors in central PA understand the truth about health care reform.
