Where to go for more info on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
I've been getting a lot of requests for more information on the new federal law, especially from friends in Central PA, where they're bombarded on all sides by misinformation. As the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services works on figuring out how to implement the changes - a process that's already well underway - they will be putting details out on their website.
But that may take a while.
So in the meantime, here are some sites to go to for easily understandable info on what’s in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Public Law 111-148) and what it means for you:
To calculate how much assistance you can expect to receive toward purchasing health insurance on your own, by answering a couple of questions on income and age:
- The Washington Post’s calculator on the page “What does the health care bill mean to me?”
- The Kaiser Family Foundation’s “Health Reform Subsidy Calculator”
More official government sites with good info:
- “Putting Americans in Charge of Their Health Care” on the White House website has answers to the most frequently asked questions, from individuals, small businesses, seniors, and so on.
- Congressman Chris Carney’s website has a prominent health reform button with many useful links. (It’s great to see a Congressman who’s going beyond the political rhetoric to help his constituents understand what’s actually in the bill.)
- House Committee on Energy and Commerce
And more non-profit sites besides this one:
