PHAN asks for hearing on HB 2005
The Pennsylvania Health Access Network has requested Senate Banking and Insurance Committee chairman Don White "to promptly schedule a hearing on House Bill 2005." The request is contained in a May 15th letter to White and the other members of the Committee.
The letter states that House Bill 2005 "would align the strategic incentives operating within the insurance market with the public interest. It would accomplish this by (a) requiring health insurers to offer minimum benefits as specified by one of the standard plans developed by the Insurance Department; and (b) ending the practice of medical underwriting. This would direct insurance carriers away from business plans based on cherry picking customers and shifting high risk policy holders to someone else, and would instead encourage business plans focused on prevention."
