Affordable Care Act Here to Stay, Time to Move Forward in PA!

Supreme Court: Affordable Care Act Here to Stay

Earlier today, the Supreme Court announced their decision to uphold the entire health care law.

This landmark law expands coverage to more than 30 million people and eliminates the worst insurance company abuses for those of us with coverage.

The constitutional debate is over. It’s time for the Pennsylvania General Assembly to stop stalling and start making these historic reforms real for us.

Stacie Ritter, Central Pennsylvania, is the mom of two twins, Hannah and Madeline, who were diagnosed with Leukemia when they were four. They survived, but her insurance company refused to cover necessary treatment. Paying out of pocket, her family eventually filed for bankruptcy.

Because the new health care law is here to stay, Hannah and Madeline will be protected from a life of discrimination at the hands of insurance companies and Pennsylvania will have to set up an appeals process folks like Stacie can use when they are denied treatment.

Hannah and Madeline will be able to stay on their dad’s plan until they are 26.  Then, when it’s time for them to find coverage, they will not be discriminated against because of their pre-existing condition.

Millions of Pennsylvanians are also experiencing enormous relief today: Over 64,000 young adults will not lose their coverage, millions of seniors will get to keep expanded Medicare benefits, those of us with coverage don’t have to fear it being ripped away from us when we need it most.

The Supreme Court put politics aside and ruled based on the Constitution. Now, we need our legislators to move past political games and lead for Pennsylvanians like you. Call your legislators today!

They need to hear from you NOW.  Tell them you’re thrilled to see the Supreme Court do the right thing and you’d like them to as well.

“I was thrilled to see the Supreme Court upheld the new health care law. It’s time to stop stalling and move forward with implementation.”

That is all you have to say in your message, plus give your name and street address so they know you live in the district.

You can bet the insurance lobbyists are picking up the phone today. Let’s remind your representatives where their real power comes from.

A couple years ago we started this fight together, to see real health care reform in America.  Even though, after a long battle, we finally passed historic legislation the fight continued.  In many ways, it got worse – dirtier. Lies, stalling, corporate money for attack ads… it all kept coming.

But, we’re still winning. And that’s because you’re still with us.

From Antoinette, Erin, Athena and all of us at the Pennsylvania Health Access Network — Thank you!
