2011 Conference Recap and Resources

The Pennsylvania Health Access Network held its 3rd Annual Health Care Conference on Sunday, March 27, and Monday, March 28 at the Radisson Hotel in Camp Hill.

Sunday Night Reception

Rev. Amy Reumann, Executive Director of the Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania, hosted PHAN's Sunday night awards reception. Watch a video of that reception here.

Bucks County artist Theresa BrownGold was honored with the 2011 Georgeanne Koehler Activist Award.

Theresa uses her portraits to bring the stories of folks that have struggled or slipped through the cracks of our broken health care system to life. Learn more about her project, Art of Social Inquiry, here and read a special story from WHYY on her work and its impact in Pennsylvania.

PHAN also gave awards to Rebecca Foley (right), Director of Education and Advocacy Initiatives for WOMEN'S WAY, and Jo Ciavaglia (left), health care reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times.

At Monday's conference, nearly 130 attendees learned about what it will take to implement an insurance exchange in Pennsylvania, how we can protect the Affordable Care Act and steps to take to improve the regulation of insurance companies.

Workshop sessions included a look at the impact of the Affordable Care Act on children and seniors, improving health care quality, insuring vulnerable Pennsylvanians, expanding home- and community-based care for seniors, and women's health.
